When Do Child Support Payments Begin?

Helping Broward County, Florida, Understand Child Support Obligations

If parties have filed for divorce and it's in a premature stage, child support payments may be ordered temporarily. The divorcing spouses may agree on a guidelines amount or the court will decide.

If all related family law matters proceed through litigation, the court will make a permanent child support order as part of the overall determination.

Payment Schedule

When a child support amount is determined, it is typically due at a certain time each month. The party responsible for providing the support may be ordered to pay through a registry by an IDO, income deduction order, or IWO, income withholding order. The registry is responsible for forwarding the amount to the other parent and keeping track of the total payments made.
